GP4K | Pitchfork + GoPro
This series began when Pitchfork was approached by GoPro to create some branded music content for them. We had done some branded music work before, but usually that only included a logo of the sponsor at the top of the video and not much else. We decided for this project we would use the various advantages of the GoPro cameras and showcase what could be done shooting performances with only GoPros.
This was my favorite of the GP4K series for many reasons; Frankie Cosmos was a pleasure to work with, I was able to talk the Pitchfork crew into shooting at the World’s largest model train museum, and specifically because we couldn’t have shot this piece with any other type of camera. I created the concept, got in touch with Northlandz about shooting in their space, setup cameras, lighting, directed the crew and Greta of Frankie Cosmos, edited, color corrected, and created motion graphics as well as various social elements for the final piece.
For this piece directed by Jim Larson, I setup camera, lighting, and the stage. I also shot, helped run lighting, and edited the piece down for the various social channels it was released on.
For this piece, I rented gear, shot all drone footage, setup lighting and cameras, shot, and helped edit the final piece for the various channels it was released on.
We didn’t want to shoot exclusively music video type performances for this series, so we decided the natural progression was to shoot some live performances as part of this ongoing project. The Pitchfork video team was regularly able to shoot a string of concerts live at Primavera Sound, only this time we were using the limitations of the GoPro camera as our jumping off point to making some interesting pieces.
For this project, I directed the crew, shot, and edited the final piece. We used the raw energy of Protomartyr to go for some rougher camera angles and moves that wouldn’t have worked with slower, refined bands.
